I have just started playing pickleball and would love some general feedback on my form/technique so I can improve rapidly.

Thank you very much for hiring me as your virtual coach. I would like to start out by saying you do a great job being on the balls of your feet therefore being light and agile.

You will want to make sure your elbow is further away from your body as I have showed in the video. This will help you hit and recover faster as well. Practice going back and forth from forehand to backhand as this is a very common pattern at the net to force an error.

When you are volleying the ball at closer distance you make small adjustment steps which help create space for your next shot. You will want to practice completely quieting (not moving them) your feet so you are just moving your arm to help stabilize your head and reduce all unnecessary movement to react faster and hit the sweet spot more consistently.

When hitting the ball against the wall at faster speeds you need to be mindful of your footwork and body. What ends up being your strength can play against you. When an opponent speeds the ball up against you (in this case the wall ;) you want to make sure your lower body is quiet I.e. not moving or significantly less. Work on hitting the ball faster and only moving the rest of your body when absolutely necessary. Your head begins to move around a lot due to this so I want you Imagine your head is holding a scolding hot cup of coffee on your head to keep it as still as possible.

A lot of your strokes are ground strokes. If you were to dink I would want you to make sure the handle of your paddle did not go any further then the inside thigh of your non-dominant hand (back hand dink) and mid hip on your dominate hand for a forehand dink. Dinking strokes are much shorter and less powerful. You would also want to pair that shortened stroke with a soft grip. Imagine you are holding the hand of a significant other on a walk you are enjoying, I.e. 3.5 grip pressure out of 10. Hitting a ball against a wall requires you to hit the ball harder then dinking, against an opponent but want to make sure I added this.

You have a good foundation. Mechanically you are primarily hitting the ball using your shoulder which is critical for a strong mind muscle connection. As you get more confident on your ground strokes you will want to make sure your hip rotation and lower-body are connected to help generate more ease of power as you hit the ball. On some of your backhand shots you use your wrist to send the ball as it gets behind you which is common, so as long as you continue to be mindful on not hitting the ball by your non-dominant foot I.e. behind you this problem will not persist. Thank you for the opportunity and please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you!
