PERMIT GUIDE

Tennis permits, made clear.

Understand what you need before you head to a public court.

1. Permit versus reservation

Permit

Permission to play at NYC Parks outdoor courts during the applicable season. Does not reserve a time.

Reservation

A reserved playing time through the correct operator channel. Separate from owning a permit.

2. Who needs a permit — and where

NYC Parks-operated outdoor courts during the permit season typically require a season or single-play permit. Other public operators (e.g. Hudson River Park) and seasonal concessions follow their own rules. Never assume one rule covers every public court.

3. Full-season versus single-play

Full-season

Best when you play often. It covers the season. It does not reserve a court. Check current fees on the NYC Parks page.

Single-play

For occasional visits. Still does not reserve a time. Fees/eligibility: verify on official NYC Parks pages.

4. Application / renewal steps

01

Prepare

ID and any residency documentation required by NYC Parks — follow current official instructions.

02

Apply or renew

Use the official NYC Parks application. Bounce explains the steps. NYC Parks issues the permit.

03

Bring what you need

Bring digital or printed proof, whatever that court accepts. Check the park page if you are not sure.

Exceptions and next steps

Some parks follow their own rules. Open that park's how-to-play page before you go. Official sources are NYC 311 and the NYC Parks permit application. Last reviewed September 17, 2026.
